10,000 Mangrove Seedlings Planted along islands of Jubail
11/26/2011

Royal Commission for Jubail with cooperation of Social Services Department Volunteer Club, planted thousands of mangroves sapling by Fisheries Department along coast of Jubail Eastern Province with the participation of more than (500) student volunteers from primary and secondary schools.

The planting of mangroves took place on the island of Dareen Area and island of Abu Ali where they also held a short program briefing the volunteers about the important role of mangroves in protecting the environment and presented a quick overview on the tree benefits and their environmental consequences and its causes of extinction.

The program is an update of the project “Islands and Protected Areas”, inaugurated by HE Chief Executive of the Royal Commission for Jubail Dr. Mosleh bin Hamed Al-Otaibi who earlier planted a number of olive trees. Royal Commission for Jubail hopes that the program will instill environmental awareness in the city and reduce the spread of environmental pollutants in the islands and oceans.

It is worth mentioning that the idea of establishing a volunteer club emanates from the Social Services Department which is constantly working to spread and consolidate a culture of volunteerism in the city of Jubail for its overall improvement through coordination with the program beneficiaries and approval of all the parties concerned.
