Preparatory year students at the Royal Commission in Jubail’s Colleges and Institutes Sector started to use the new English Language Institute’s building facilities within Jubail Industrial College. The building incorporates 24 English language laboratories equipped with the latest teaching aids for college’s preparatory year students. The importance of the English Language Institute at the Colleges and Institutes Sector is evident since it is the medium of instruction at the sector. In addition, passing preparatory year is a prerequisite for all students regardless of their future concentrations.
According to Dr. Eid Al Hajri, College Managing Director, the English Language Institute includes 135 smart classrooms. The capacity of each classroom is 40 students. Currently, the Institute is teaching English Language to approximately 3500 students at the Industrial College, 1800 students at Jubail Technical Institute and 400 students at Jubail University College over more than 185 teaching divisions. Students are being taught by more than 165 multinational teachers who have various degrees in teaching English Language to non-English speakers.
He added, the building houses the recently constructed English Language Institute. This year, work commenced in 24 English Language laboratories equipped with the latest technologies to enable students to perform a weekly self-assessment of their levels. It is also used for conducting periodic short and final examinations.
The institute also includes examination halls for conducting final examinations. It is also dedicated for partners from other education entities such as the British Council for conducting IELTS Exam and the National Center for Assessment (QIYAS) for conducting the “General Aptitude Test (GAT)” and “Scholastic Achievement Admission Test”.
The institute, in cooperation with the Cambridge and Oxford Universities Presses, offers a new curriculum for the preparatory year which was recently approved after a year and a half of research and planning verification as per scientific standards for creating an English Language curriculum that promotes the students’ level and their linguistic skills over four basic levels as per the European framework.
Dr. Al Hajri also said, based on our belief of the importance of the development and training of the English Language Institute’s teachers to familiarize them with the latest scientific advances in the field of teaching English Language, the Institute conducts periodic courses and workshops in partnership with the Human Resources and English language experts. In addition to providing the opportunities for exchanging expertise internally among the faculty members. The Institute is independently operated for providing better educational and administrative services to students and faculty in a more flexible manner.
The Institute also aims at providing an attractive environment for required competencies through simplification and automation of work procedures via modern teaching technologies whether in classrooms, language laboratories or in academic administrative tasks. In addition to the Institute’s interest in providing comfort and livelihoods to its staff and their children in Jubail Industrial City in coordination with the competent entities at Jubail Industrial College and the Royal Commission in Jubail.
The English Language Institute of Jubail Industrial College keeps up with the National Transformation Program 2020 and Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 by increasing the number of Saudi teaching staff and creating partnerships and cooperation with other entities in the area to provide a high quality education service as per international standards to the community which shall contribute to boost development.
