Inauguration of Civil Defence Exhibition in Jubail Industrial City
Within the activities of International Civil Defence Day under the motto (Civil Defence & School), and within the activities of the Civil Defence Dept. in Jubail, Jubail Governor Mr. Abdulmohsin M. Al-Otaishan inaugurated the exhibition in the presence of Director General of the Eastern Province Civil Defence, /General Abdullah Bin Gharsah, Director of Jubail Civil Defence Colonel /Saeed Al-Malhi, and Director of RC Education Services Department Mr. Abdulaziz Al-Misnid. Forty (40) entities including the Royal Commission in Jubail, SABIC, SASREF, and a number of secondary Industries took part in the exhibition. The ceremony started with verses recited from the Holy Quran. Then, Jubail Governor Mr. Abdulmohsin Al-Otaishan delivered a speech saying that, the exhibition is a continuation of distinguished efforts exerted by Civil Defence in the field of safety and civil defence services. He added, that the Civil Defence activities such as fire fighting, catastrophic rescue operations, and follow up of safety measures at all industrial, commercial and residential facilities, is a great task which requires joining efforts for an accident free society. An International Civil Defence Day comes for getting acquainted with the role and duties by Civil Defence besides the community role and contribution in this respect. In this context, the International Civil Defence Day is held this year under the motto (Civil Defence & School) to ingrain safety concept in our sons, the students, for promising and prosperous future. Al-Otaishan concluded his speech by praising Jubail Civil Defence for organizing this exhibition and thanking government and private sector entities participating in the event.
The Governor and the visitors toured the exhibition and expressed their pleasure of the good presentation of two models of houses: one provided with all safety measures and the other lacks them and with firmly closed iron windows. An old over-used gas cylinder and some unsafe connections were also exhibited. The exhibition included a scene of a child confined in a house firmly closed with iron windows screaming for help.
Colonel Saeed Al-Malhi, Director of Jubail Civil Defence said that such activities deepen safety concepts. He added there is a new initiative of a Kitchen Prize for the best Kitchen provided with safety measures including: gas connections, exhaust fan, electrical wiring and fire extinguishers.
There is also a prize for the best house following safety measures such as fire extinguishers, electrical wiring, air conditioning, good-house appliances and other safety requirements. Specialized committees shall inspect these participating houses. He also pointed out that lectures have been given at schools with a view to enhancing the awareness of all people whether within the family or school. Similar lectures were given for students at the Girls Jubail College of Education via CCTV. The lectures aim at increasing the awareness of the majority of students to avoid accidents. A false evacuation was carried out at some schools, and some CDs showing the same were distributed among the students.
