Under the auspices of HE Chief Executive Officer of the Royal Commission for Jubail, Dr. Mosleh H. Al-Otaibi, thru Acting CEO Mosaed Al-Massar, GM Support Services Sector, organized on June 5, Tuesday the one-day Environment Symposium with the theme, Green Economy: Does it include You? , held in Cultural Center, Fanateer District, Jubail Industrial City, coinciding with the World Environment celebration for this year 2012. The awarding ceremony for industrial companies in Best Environmental Performance category for the year 2011 and Environmental Awareness Program for Schools award has been distributed also for the first time during the event.
The aim of this event was to gather people and specialists in the field of environment to exchange knowledge and expertise to promote a better environment, as well as instilling a sense of responsibility to the industrial companies in the environmental preservation and raise environmental awareness, in addition to discuss the latest global technologies in some local communities where principles and methodologies can be applied by the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in general and the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu in particular which are considered strongholds of the largest petrochemical industries in Saudi Arabia.
Royal Commission for Jubail Director of Environmental Protection and Control Department and Symposium Session Chairman Dr. Hussein bin Mohammed Al-Beshri, expressed his appreciation to all the researchers, environmental professionals, international organizations and policy-makers for attending and supporting this worthy event in order to achieve Royal Commission’s advocacy of becoming Jubail as City of Green Economy. “Environmental programs were thoroughly designed to achieve integration and mutual support between industries and environment authorities to further promote sustainable development, which primarily based on the concept of a green economy to reshape and rectify the economic activities to be more friendly and lessen its effects in the environment and social development so that a green economy will direct the path towards sustainable growth”, Dr. Beshri noted. He also declared that Royal Commission was keen to develop further regulations and environmental laws that support citizen’s right to live in a clean environment by promoting activities that will lead to the recycling and reusing ideas wherein awareness competition has been widely participated by schools in the city.
Environmental Performance Awards for 2011-2012 for primary industries was then presented which the National Industrialization Company got the 1st place, Petrokemya in 2nd place and Sipchem in the 3rd place respectively. While for the secondary industries, Arabian Chemical Company Ltd. Obtained the 1st place, Al-Bilad Catalyst Co. and National Company for Environmental Preservation got the 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
At the end of the ceremony, sponsors for this year’s event was presented with awards namely: National Industrialization Company (TASNEE) as the main sponsor, Platinum sponsor – Chevron Phillips Saudi Arabia, Gold sponsor – Saudi International Petrochem Co. (Sipchem) and Silver Sponsor – Methanol Chemical Co. (Chemanol).
