Royal Commission organizes World Environment Day Symposium 2013
Under the patronage of HE Dr. Mosleh H. Al-Otaibi, CEO of Royal Commission for Jubail, Royal Commission organized a Symposium on Environment Day coinciding with World Environment Day celebration last Wednesday, 05 June 2013 held in Al-Fanateer, Cultural Center, Jubail Industrial City.
 
The one-day Symposium’s theme, “Think. Eat. Save” , is also the United Nation’s anti-food waste and food loss campaign to encourage the people to reduce food wastes, and to think before eating and help saving the environment. One of the highlights of the event is the Royal Commission’s awarding ceremony for industrial companies which garnered Best Environmental Performance Award 2012 in acknowledgment of their efforts in the field of environment preservation while Annual Environmental Competition winners from schools will also be honored likewise awards for the Best Sponsoring Company for holding the annual school environmental awareness activities were distributed during the said event.
 
Royal Commission GM for Technical Affairs, Ahmed Al-Balawi, commended the commission’s participation in the annual world environment celebration and said that through organization of conferences and scientific symposiums were able to respond to its social responsibility of educating respective communities that would also urge government entities, civic institutions and decision makers to find solutions to the pressing global environmental issues. “This year's theme encourages the community to be consciously aware of the environmental impact of the food choices we made , and to be mindful in decision making starting from our respective homes to reduce food wastes, save money and lessen the environmental impact on food production”, Al-Balawi said.
 
Short film has been presented then immediately followed by the awarding ceremony for the basic industries for having won the Best Environmental Performance Award 2012  to acknowledge their efforts in the field of environmental preservation.  RCJ CEO Dr. Mosleh H. Al-Otaibi presented 1st place award to National Industrialization Company (Tasnee), 2nd place Saudi International Petrochemical Company (Sipchem) and 3rd place Al-Jubail Petrochemical Company (Kemya) respectively. While in secondary industries category, Arabian Chemical Company (Latex) got 1st place, Arab AlKali (Soda) and Saudi Company for Specialty Chemicals got 2nd and 3rd place correspondingly. Al-Jubail United Petrochemical Company (United) was named the best sponsoring company for the annual school environmental awareness activities.
 
TASNEE, Global Services Environmental Management (GEMS), Environment Development Company (EDCO), SATORP, SABIC, SIPCHEM, SASREF and Bee’ah were also honored being the major and minor sponsors of the event.
 
Royal Commission was keen that instituting the awards will spread a competitive spirit among industrial companies in their continuing pursuit of implementing future plans for a clean environment.
