Under the Patronage of His Highness Prince Saud bin Abdullah bin Thunayan Al-Saud, Chairman of the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu, the activities of Jubail 2nd International City Planning Forum have started today, Tuesday, under the title “Future Challenges of City Planning” and will to continue for two days at the Conference Hall in Jubail Industrial City (JIC). The forum is conducted by the City and Regional Planning Department of the College of Environmental Design, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals.
According to the General Moderator of the forum, Eng. Ahmad Mutair Al-Balawi, GM of Technical Affairs at RCJ, the forum is expected to witness significant participation from both the private and public sectors, as well as a big number of city planning specialists from the kingdom and abroad. The forum is also accompanied by an exhibition explanatory to the topics to be discussed. Activities including number of workshops, the first of which is titled “Ways and Prospects of Cooperation between the Private Sector and the Royal Commission in Urban and Real Estate Development”, and the second is themed “The Integration of Local Development Plans for the Eastern Province”.
The general moderator pointed out that several work papers submitted by local and international specialists shall be discussed during the forum. He added that the forum shall focus on several major areas that discuss the economic dimension of urban development, transportation planning, development and management of city centers, sustainable development, and green cities.
Eng. Al-Balawi emphasized that the Royal Commission aims, through this forum, to shed light on modern city planning and the challenges faced by cities in light of the contemporary variables, the successful experiences in this field that were based on the proper city proper and to point out. This is in addition to the exchange of expertise between planning specialists.
The forum aims to brief the attendees on the latest developments in the field of planning and how to make use of the relevant international experiences. Several engineers and academics will give speeches about various topics, including sustainable development, city growth, management transportation planning, urban development, the economic dimension, and urban design.
It is worth mentioning that Jubail Industrial City (JIC) occupies a notable position in the field of industry worldwide. JIC is also keen to enhance this position through serious interest in other related fields such as urban planning, housing, environment protection, and city greening. JIC was awarded many prizes in this respect, including the first prize of the Arab Towns Organization in the field of city landscaping, and several awards and other prizes in environment protection, investment attraction and other fields.
