Description Image

The Royal Commission has prioritized the establishment of logistics zones within its industrial cities. In Jubail Industrial City, extensive studies have been conducted since 2010 to assess the need for a dedicated logistics area that would meet the growing demands of existing industries. These studies also defined the types of activities and services required to support industrial growth.

As a result, over 800 hectares have been allocated for logistics operations, following the completion of strategic and economic feasibility studies. This allocation has been divided into two phases: the first phase, located in Jubail 2, spans 450 hectares, while the second phase in Jubail 1 covers 350 hectares.

These logistics projects encompass a wide range of services including general and specialized warehousing, freight and cargo handling, container storage and services, packaging, heavy equipment handling, and specialized logistics operations

The logistics zone is strategically linked to the railway network and both King Fahd Industrial Port and Jubail Commercial Port. Within Jubail Industrial City, the rail network connects large industrial facilities to the ports of Jubail and Dammam, as well as to the national railway system. The logistics area is also integrated with pipeline corridors and globally standardized road networks to facilitate supply chain operations.

The rail system will enhance industrial integration between petrochemical and mining industries and provide a safe mode of transport for petroleum and petrochemical products from production sites to processing facilities, storage hubs, and export zones.

In Yanbu Industrial City, a Multi-Modal Logistics Center has been established, featuring key components such as a railway station, container terminal, export and re-export zones, various types of warehouses, and a shipbuilding and repair facility, along with other essential logistical infrastructure. The city has also launched a mineral raw materials distribution center with an annual capacity of 50 million tons of iron ore and 20 million tons of other minerals.

The Royal Commission in Yanbu was awarded the Silver Prize for Best Logistics Project in 2024 for this Multi-Modal Logistics Center during its participation in the Industry Eagles Awards annual event held in London, United Kingdom.

In pursuit of comprehensive logistics integration along the Red Sea coast, the Royal Commission, in collaboration with the Transport General Authority, has initiated a project to connect the Yanbu Logistics Center by rail to both King Abdullah Port and Jeddah Islamic Port. This link is designed to handle up to 2.5 million containers annually, positioning Yanbu Industrial City as a key node in the national Land Bridge project.

This initiative is strategically significant for interconnecting major industrial and economic clusters across the Kingdom. It aims to maximize economic benefits, strengthen the national railway network, attract leading global logistics providers and affiliated industries, and unlock a wide range of investment opportunities. Moreover, the project is expected to reduce logistics costs for industries by up to 30%, enhancing national industrial competitiveness. It will also help reduce the volume of trucks on roadways, thereby reducing carbon emissions and alleviating traffic congestion. Additionally, it will enable better utilization of the large number of empty containers currently needed by Yanbu Industrial City for export operations.

The Royal Commission’s cities are home to four ports and 89 industrial berths, with a combined handling capacity of up to 320 million tons per year:

  • King Fahd Industrial Port in Jubail
  • Ras Al-Khair Port
  • King Fahd Industrial Port in Yanbu
  • Port of Jazan City for Primary and Downstream Industries
